Beth Demke has spent most of her professional career dedicated to advancing informal STEM education and providing opportunities for children and families to discover science through hands-on experiences. She was hired as the first Executive Director of Gateway to Science in December 1995, after serving as a regular volunteer since the grand opening in November 1994. Under her direction, Gateway to Science has grown into a regional STEM resource that annually serves over 40,000 visitors and program participants. Beth is certified through the Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC) and is a frequent session presenter at the annual ASTC conference.
Beth shares her experience and passion for informal education with organizations and causes that closely align with her philosophy that learning is a lifelong endeavor. She currently serves as the Board President for the ND STEM Ecosystem and Treasurer for the Innovation School in Bismarck. Beth represents North Dakota on the international STEM Learning Ecosystems Advisory Council, is a member of the Visiting Scientists Series committee and a past president of Bismarck-Mandan Junior Service League.
Beth received a BS in Human Resources from the University of Colorado – Denver. She was a member of the inaugural class of Leadership Advanced North Dakota Executive Training and was awarded the High Impact Seal of Distinction from the Impact Institute.
Beth and her husband, Keith, have two daughters and three grandchildren.
